Table Tennis: Egypt Dares Nigeria, Others at 2025 ITTF African Championships
Egypt has declared its readiness to defend its continental dominance as the countdown begins to the 2025 ITTF African Championships, scheduled to hold in Tunis, Tunisia, from October 12 to 19.
The North African powerhouse, which has ruled the sport in Africa over the past five years, enters the tournament as the team to beat.
However, the Egyptians admit they will face tough opposition from traditional rivals Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar, all of whom are fielding increasingly formidable players.
Egypt’s supremacy has been evident in their impressive haul of titles at both continental and global competitions, with their stars regularly qualifying for the World Championships and Olympic Games. Yet, the nation’s table tennis federation is not underestimating the competition, pointing to the emergence of young, ambitious players across Africa who are keen to challenge their dominance.
Nigeria, led by experienced stars and an exciting new generation, remains one of the biggest threats to Egypt’s crown.
Tunisia, as hosts, are also expected to mount a spirited challenge buoyed by home support, while Algeria and Madagascar have been steadily improving in recent years.
The 2025 Championships promise to be a spectacle, as Africa’s best battle for supremacy, ranking points, and qualification spots for upcoming global events.
With continental bragging rights at stake, Tunis is set to witness thrilling encounters as Egypt seeks to defend its pride against Africa’s rising table tennis powers.
