APC, Opposition Lock Horns Over Atiku’s Hunger Warning

The ruling All Progressives Congress has come under fire from opposition parties over its reaction to a warning issued by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Atiku cautioned that the government’s economic policies could spark public outrage comparable to the French and Russian revolutions if hunger and hardship remain unchecked.
The APC dismissed Atiku’s remarks as “reckless, irresponsible and a tacit instigation of revolution.”
However, opposition leaders have rallied behind Atiku, accusing the APC of attempting to silence critics and divert attention from Nigeria’s economic woes.
The New Nigeria People’s Party has defended Atiku’s warning, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of statesmen to speak truth to power and highlight pressing issues affecting the country.
Ladipo Johnson, National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP, stated that Atiku’s warning was not inciteful but rather a call to action for the government to address the country’s economic challenges.
The Peoples Democratic Party also criticized the APC for being disconnected from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. Timothy Osadolor, Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, argued that Atiku’s warning reflected the sentiments of millions of Nigerians who struggle to afford basic necessities.
The cost of living in Nigeria has reached a point where many people can hardly afford two meals a day, according to Osadolor.
He accused the APC of vilifying and harassing Atiku because they know that what he said is true, and they don’t want Nigerians to have a voice.
The opposition insists that Atiku has merely given voice to the frustrations of millions of Nigerians struggling to make ends meet. As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the issue of hunger and poverty in Nigeria demands urgent attention from policymakers.
Atiku’s warning has sparked a national debate about the government’s economic policies and their impact on citizens. While the APC has dismissed Atiku’s concerns as “dangerous and anti-democratic,” the opposition insists that he has merely echoed the anger of millions of Nigerians who can barely afford food under the Tinubu administration.
The APC’s reaction to Atiku’s warning has been widely criticized by Nigerians and international observers. Many have called on the government to take concrete steps to address the country’s economic challenges rather than silencing critics.
