Villagers Protest as Herdsmen Kill Choirmaster, others in Benue

On Saturday, traffic on the bustling Makurdi–Abuja highway ground to a halt as hundreds of incensed villagers from the Achakpa community and Agan, within the Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, obstructed the road in a fervent protest against the slaying of their loved ones by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.
The assault, which transpired in the early hours of Saturday, September 20, 2025, on the periphery of the Achakpa community along the North Bank–Lafia road, claimed the lives of a man named Tor Felafa, his son, and Mr. Francis Kulegwa, a senior choirmaster at Daudu Mission in the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi.
Numerous others were abducted, while many narrowly evaded capture, with several individuals still unaccounted for.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were ambushed while laboring on their farms behind the village, a tactic allegedly employed by the assailants after meticulously monitoring agricultural activities in the vicinity.
