Mbappe Scores Again as Real Madrid Defeat Espanyol to Stay Perfect in La Liga

Real Madrid extended their flawless start to the La Liga season on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabéu, thanks to goals from Eder Militao and Kylian Mbappe.
The win, Madrid’s fifth in as many league games, puts Xabi Alonso’s side five points clear of defending champions Barcelona, who play Getafe on Sunday.
Centre-back Militao broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a stunning long-range strike that flew into the top corner.
French superstar Mbappe then sealed the points early in the second half, curling home from outside the area after being set up by Vinícius Júnior.
Madrid were in control throughout, with Espanyol who arrived in the capital sitting third in the table rarely threatening.
The visitors have not beaten Los Blancos at the Bernabéu since 1996, and Saturday’s clash proved another tough lesson.
Mbappe, who had scored twice from the penalty spot in midweek as Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a victory over Marseille, has now netted five goals in La Liga this season. His form has been central to Alonso’s impressive start as manager.
Vinícius returned to the starting XI after being benched in recent weeks but remains short of top form.
However, the Brazilian still created Mbappe’s decisive goal and linked well with young striker Gonzalo García, who was handed a rare start.
There was more good news for Madrid fans late on, as England midfielder Jude Bellingham made his first appearance since undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer.
The 22-year-old came on in the closing stages, easing back into action.
The result ensures Madrid maintain their perfect record across all competitions this season, with Mbappe once again at the heart of their charge for silverware.
