Liverpool Extend Perfect Start, Defeat Everton in Thrilling Merseyside Derby

Liverpool maintained their flawless start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Everton in a fiery Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday.

The win, their fifth in as many games, keeps Jürgen Klopp’s side firmly at the top of the table.

The Reds began the game on the front foot and were rewarded early when Ryan Gravenberch struck in the 10th minute after being set up by Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool doubled their advantage before the half-hour mark as Hugo Ekitike calmly slotted home following a precise assist from Gravenberch.

Everton struggled to keep pace in the first half but returned from the break with renewed energy.

Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Idrissa Gana Gueye finished off a move orchestrated by Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish, pulling one back for the Toffees and setting up a tense finale.

Despite sustained pressure from Everton, Liverpool’s defence, marshalled by Virgil van Dijk, held firm to preserve the lead.

The closing stages were not without controversy, as Everton players protested over time-keeping and refereeing decisions, with Grealish booked for dissent after the final whistle.

For Klopp’s men, the result reinforced their title credentials, with Gravenberch and Ekitike both making decisive contributions.

Everton, meanwhile, were left to rue a sluggish start, though their spirited second-half display offered some encouragement.

The win ensures Liverpool’s perfect record of five victories from five matches this season, while Everton remain mid-table after suffering their second defeat.

The Merseyside derby once again lived up to its billing, with fierce tackles, high drama, and goals that will be remembered on both sides of the city.
