JonahCapital Rightful Owners of River Park Estate, Declares FCT Minister

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has brought an end to the longstanding controversy surrounding the ownership of River Park Estate in Abuja.

According to Wike, the FCT signed an agreement with JonahCapital Nigeria Ltd, promoted by Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, to develop the estate on Plot 4 Cadastral, Zone E30 Lugbe, Abuja, during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.

The dispute arose when JonahCapital partnered with Paulo Homes to obtain building approvals from FCT Development Control, which Wike described as a breach of their agreement.

However, Wike emphasized that the FCT has no business dealings with Paulo Homes, and the only valid agreement is with JonahCapital Ltd.

Given the circumstances, the FCT decided to take decisive action.

Wike stated that the development lease for JonahCapital had expired, and the properties hurriedly developed by Paulo Homes would be demolished.

Additionally, all Certificates of Occupancy issued to the company on behalf of unwary buyers would be withdrawn and given directly to the Nigerian owners to protect them.

The Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, Akin Fakorede, recently addressed a press conference with the immediate past Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, claiming ownership of the estate for Paulo Homes and filing criminal charges against Jonah Capital.

Wike condemned these actions, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to resolving the dispute in favor of the rightful owners.

An Abuja High Court had earlier ordered both parties to maintain the status quo and refrain from interfering with the disputed properties. The court’s ruling effectively put a hold on all activities within the estate pending further court proceedings.

This development is expected to bring relief to homeowners in the estate, who have been living in uncertainty due to the prolonged dispute. Wike’s decisive action demonstrates his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of legitimate property owners in the FCT.
