New Rules in Place as 2025 Ballon d’Or Awards Holds Next Week
The football world is gearing up for one of its most prestigious nights, as the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to take place next week, honouring the standout men’s and women’s players of the 2024/25 season.
This year’s edition comes with a major change in the selection process. Unlike in previous years, players will no longer be able to use performances from the early months of the new season to strengthen their case for the award.
Instead, the award will strictly recognise achievements within the official 2024/25 campaign, bringing greater clarity and consistency to the evaluation criteria.
The Ballon d’Or, organised by France Football, has long been regarded as the most coveted individual prize in world football, with past winners including icons such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modrić, and more recently, Erling Haaland and Aitana Bonmatí.
Fans and analysts are eagerly awaiting the list of this year’s winners, with debates intensifying over which players did enough over the course of the season to earn football’s highest individual honour.
The ceremony will also feature awards for the best goalkeeper (Yashin Trophy), the best young player (Kopa Trophy), and the best club and national teams, among others.
