FG Sets 2030 Target for 95% Digital Literacy – NITDA

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging Nigeria’s digital divide by setting an ambitious target of achieving 95 per cent digital literacy among citizens by the year 2030.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by the agency’s Director of Stakeholder Management, Aristotle Onumo, during the Grand Finale of the Tech4Dev Digital for All Challenge 2.0 held on Thursday in Abuja.

Abdullahi explained that the government is pursuing the goal through strategic collaborations with key institutions, including the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and various educational bodies nationwide. He noted that by 2027, NITDA aims to have trained and digitally empowered at least 30 million Nigerians, a milestone expected to significantly boost innovation, job creation, and competitiveness in the global digital economy.

“The DFA 2.0 competition aligns with NITDA’s vision. Our aim is to ensure that 95 per cent of Nigerians are digitally literate by 2030. By 2027, we want to see 30 million Nigerians trained and digitally empowered. We cannot do this alone, which is why we are working with partners,” Abdullahi said.

The Digital for All Challenge 2.0, an initiative of Tech4Dev, is designed to increase digital literacy, especially among young people and underserved communities. It provides participants with opportunities to acquire basic, intermediate, and advanced digital skills needed to thrive in the technology-driven economy.

Stakeholders at the event emphasized that improved digital literacy is central to Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda, particularly as the country seeks to harness the potential of its youthful population.

The initiative is also in line with the Federal Government’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (2020–2030), which prioritizes human capital development and digital inclusion as cornerstones of Nigeria’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
