ADC Denies Court Injunction Against David Mark, Aregbesola Leadership

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that a court injunction was obtained against its new leadership under National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, the ADC described the reports as “deliberate misinformation” aimed at causing confusion within the party and misleading the public.
Abdullahi explained that those opposed to the current leadership had previously tried, but failed, to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the leadership changes.
According to him, having lost that battle, “political opportunists” are now resorting to spreading fake news about a non-existent court injunction.
“The attention of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress has been drawn to false claims being circulated regarding a purported court injunction against Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.
We wish to categorically state that no such injunction exists,” the statement read.
The ADC has been enmeshed in a leadership tussle in recent months, with factions battling for control of the party’s structure.
The crisis escalated after INEC officially recognised Senator Mark and Mr. Aregbesola as the party’s substantive National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.
Abdullahi urged party members and the general public to disregard the “propaganda,” stressing that the ADC remains focused on strengthening its structures across the country ahead of future elections.
“The leadership under Senator Mark and Hon. Aregbesola is committed to repositioning our party as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s democratic space. We will not be distracted by elements bent on destabilising our progress,” the statement added.
The ADC, one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties, has been struggling to find stability since its last national convention, with rival factions claiming legitimacy.
The party leadership, however, insists that the recognition by INEC has put the matter to rest.
