PDP Slams APC’s Endorsement of Tinubu as Desperation Ploy

The Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed the All Progressives Congress’s recent endorsements of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, labeling them a clear sign of desperation and panic ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba made this assertion during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing that the APC’s efforts to garner support reflect a failure of governance.

According to Ologunagba, the APC’s pursuit of endorsements from various stakeholders, including governors, National Assembly members, and opposition leaders, indicates a lack of confidence in the party’s performance.

“If indeed the President is doing well and the APC is succeeding, you let your work speak for you,” he said, adding that seeking endorsements is a sign of panic.

The PDP spokesperson highlighted the party’s commitment to delivering a successful National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This convention, he said, is crucial in preparing the party to effectively challenge and defeat the APC in the next election.

Ologunagba also stressed the need for immediate electoral reforms to guarantee free, fair, and transparent elections in 2027. Specifically, he advocated for real-time transmission of election results to prevent manipulation.

“There should be an electoral amendment to mandate the transmission of election results from polling units to the portal in real time, making manipulation difficult,” he said.

The PDP’s call for reforms comes amid concerns over the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS) and other INEC technologies. Ologunagba noted that while POS machines and bank ATMs work seamlessly across the country, BIVAS experiences glitches, suggesting deliberate institutional manipulation.

The PDP emphasized that INEC must provide a legal framework to ensure the credibility of the electoral process.

“BIVAS, iREV, and other INEC technologies must be institutionalized and supported by law,” Ologunagba said, adding that the party will lead the charge to ensure a seamless, free, fair, and transparent election.
