Neighbours’ Dispute Turns Deadly, Leaves Ibesikpo Community in Shock

Residents of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, have been left reeling after a heated quarrel between two neighbours spiraled into a violent clash that claimed the life of a youth leader in the community.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening when a disagreement between 34-year-old Ekopimo Effiong Moses, the community’s youth president, and his neighbour, Joseph Okon Eren, escalated into a machete fight.

Eyewitnesses said what began as a verbal exchange quickly degenerated, with both men resorting to weapons.

Moses sustained deep cuts and was rushed to the hospital, but doctors later confirmed him dead.

News of his passing has thrown the community into mourning, as many described him as a vibrant leader whose loss will leave a painful void.

“It is heartbreaking that a misunderstanding could end like this. Moses was always at the forefront of community development,” one resident lamented.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the arrest of the 37-year-old suspect and recovery of the machete believed to have been used.

She assured that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances behind the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the village has been gripped with grief, with elders calling for calm and urging residents to allow law enforcement to handle the matter.
