Miyetti Allah Hails Enugu Government’s Peaceful Response to Herders’ Attack
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has lauded the Enugu State Government for its swift and peaceful intervention following a recent attack on herders in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu, the association’s National Deputy Director, Mr. Gidado Siddiki, described the government’s response as a demonstration of Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to upholding peace, justice, and the protection of all lawful businesses across the state.
According to Siddiki, the incident—which left six herders injured and led to the rustling of more than 100 cattle was both tragic and regrettable. He, however, noted that the proactive steps taken by the state government had calmed tensions and reassured affected communities.
“We commend the Enugu State Government for the way it has handled this matter. The governor has shown leadership by ensuring that the situation does not escalate and that justice will prevail.
This gives us confidence that all legitimate trades, including cattle rearing, will continue to receive protection under his administration,” Siddiki stated.
He further appealed for continued collaboration between herders, host communities, and security agencies to prevent future clashes, stressing that peaceful coexistence remained the foundation for progress and economic development.
The association also urged its members in Enugu and other parts of the South-East to remain law-abiding, emphasizing dialogue and mutual understanding as the best tools for resolving disputes.
The recent incident adds to concerns over farmer-herder relations in parts of Nigeria, but stakeholders in Enugu have expressed optimism that the government’s conciliatory approach will help strengthen peace and security in the state.
