Kylian Mbappe once again proved decisive as Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday, despite being reduced to 10 men for over an hour.

First-half goals from Mbappe and Arda Güler set Los Blancos on course for their fourth straight victory of the season, maintaining their perfect start to the campaign. Mikel Oyarzabal struck back from the penalty spot for Sociedad, but the home side could not find a way past Madrid’s resilient defense.

Madrid head coach, Carlo Ancelotti opted for Dani Carvajal at right-back, leaving summer signing Trent Alexander-Arnold on the bench.

Fede Valverde was rested, with Dani Ceballos handed a rare start. Güler thought he had given Madrid the lead early on, only for his strike to be ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Mbappe eventually broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a sloppy back-pass from Sociedad’s defense.

The Frenchman showcased his blistering pace to surge past two defenders before slotting coolly into the bottom corner, notching his fourth league goal of the season.

Madrid’s control of the game suffered a setback when new signing Dean Huijsen, brought in from Bournemouth in the summer, was shown a straight red card for pulling down Oyarzabal as he raced through on goal.

Despite being a man down, Madrid extended their lead before the interval through Güler, who made no mistake this time, drilling home a precise finish to double the advantage.

Sociedad pulled one back after the break when Oyarzabal converted from the spot, but Ancelotti’s side held firm with a disciplined defensive display.

The result leaves Madrid top of the table with 12 points from four matches, while Real Sociedad continue their search for a first win under new coach Sergio Francisco.

Athletic Bilbao could move within touching distance when they face Alaves later on Saturday, while champions Barcelona host Valencia on Sunday in what promises to be another crucial weekend of La Liga action.
