Tragedy in Yaba: One Dead, Others Feared Trapped in Building Collapse

One person has been confirmed dead after a three-storey building collapsed at Alagomeji in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in its Day 2 incident report on Saturday, said the body of a male victim was recovered from the rubble during ongoing search and rescue operations.
In an earlier update on its official X handle, the agency noted that four persons had so far been rescued and were in stable condition. However, it added that there were indications two more people could still be trapped beneath the debris.
“Search and rescue operation is still ongoing at the building collapse scene. NEMA, LASEMA, Fire Services, Police, FRSC and NSCDC are on ground. The number of persons rescued remain four; they are in stable condition. No additional person has been rescued at the time of this report but there is speculation of two more persons under the rubbles,” the agency stated.
Confirming the casualty, NEMA later announced: “One body (male) has just been recovered from the rubble. Search and Rescue operation is still ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said eight construction workers had earlier been rescued from the site.
Emergency responders are continuing operations to ensure that no one remains trapped as investigations into the cause of the collapse begin.
