Remi Tinubu: Why I Called For Partnership To Complete National Library
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has shed light on her recent call for partnership to ensure the long-abandoned National Library project is finally completed.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when she received members of the Forum of Female Chief Executive Officers of Government Agencies and Organisations, Mrs. Tinubu said her appeal was born out of a desire to give indigent students access to improved learning facilities and resources.
According to her, the completion of the National Library is not just a symbolic gesture but a critical investment in the nation’s future. She stressed that education remains the most powerful tool to empower young Nigerians, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realise their potential.
It could be recalled that ahead of her 65th birthday on September 21, 2025, the First Lady had appealed to friends, associates, and other well-meaning Nigerians to channel their goodwill and birthday gestures towards the completion of the landmark project, rather than engaging in elaborate celebrations.
In a video message announcing her decision, Mrs. Tinubu said she would dedicate her birthday to God and to advancing causes dear to her heart, especially those that promote knowledge, literacy, and equal opportunities for young people.
The National Library project, which has remained incomplete for several years despite multiple government interventions, has long been a subject of public concern. The First Lady’s initiative is seen as a fresh call to action aimed at mobilising collective support to finally deliver the project for the benefit of all Nigerians.
