NAFDAC Busts ₦1.2bn Fake Malaria Drug Syndicate in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted counterfeit malaria drugs valued at over ₦1.2 billion in Lagos.
The operation, carried out in the Ilasa-Oshodi area, was disclosed by the agency in a statement on its official X handle on Friday.
According to NAFDAC, its enforcement team uncovered 277 cartons of counterfeit and unregistered Malamal Forte malaria drugs concealed in cartons labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg.
“The drugs, illegally imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China, were falsely declared as spare parts in a shipping container,” the agency stated on X.
NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s determination to wipe out counterfeit and substandard medicines from Nigeria. She stressed that the crackdown, fully supported by the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health, was part of a sustained nationwide operation.
Adeyeye added that the seizure underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that only safe, quality medicines are available to Nigerians.
