UK Removed Ambassador Peter Mandelson Over Ties to Jeffrey Epstein

The UK government has withdrawn Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States, citing newly revealed emails that show a deeper relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein than previously known.
The decision comes after reports emerged of Mandelson’s supportive messages to Epstein during his investigation and sentencing for sexual offenses in 2008.
In a statement, the Foreign Secretary said Mandelson’s suggestion that Epstein’s first conviction was wrongful and should be challenged was new information that led to his withdrawal.
The sacking comes just before US President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain and follows calls from opposition leaders and Labour MPs for Mandelson to step down.
Mandelson has apologized for associating with Epstein, saying he relied on assurances of Epstein’s innocence that turned out to be false.
The controversy surrounding Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador has raised questions about the vetting process and the government’s handling of sensitive information.
