Tinubu Directs Further Reduction in Food Prices Across Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to implement measures aimed at further lowering food prices across the country.
The directive was announced by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, during a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Abdullahi, the government’s strategy focuses on tackling the high cost of transporting agricultural produce, a major factor driving up food prices.
The FEC committee has been tasked with ensuring the safe passage of agricultural commodities across the country, thereby addressing logistical bottlenecks that have inflated costs.
In addition to improving transportation, the government is set to launch the Farmer Soil Health Scheme and implement a Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme.
These initiatives aim to strengthen the agricultural sector, boost productivity, and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
The move comes amid rising food prices and inflation, compounded by recent policy reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies. Despite previous interventions, many Nigerians continue to face challenges in affording basic food items, highlighting the urgent need for effective solutions.
President Tinubu’s renewed focus on reducing food prices underscores his administration’s commitment to tackling economic hardships and ensuring food security for all citizens.
