Mimiko Criticizes Political Rivals, Backs Tinubu’s Leadership Credentials

Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has expressed strong views on the current political landscape, openly criticizing several high-profile politicians while endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a proven leader with unmatched administrative experience.
In a recent statement, Mimiko accused former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola of opposing President Tinubu not out of patriotism, but due to personal grievances and dwindling political relevance.
He also took a swipe at former Anambra Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, labeling him as dishonest. According to Mimiko, Obi’s claims of infrastructural development during his time in office were refuted even by educators in the state, who allegedly laughed off his statements as untrue.
He further alleged that Obi struggled with salary payments during his governorship, questioning his capacity to lead a nation.
Highlighting Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State Governor, Mimiko praised him for pioneering worker-friendly initiatives, including the introduction of the 13th-month salary—an uncommon benefit in Nigerian public service at the time.
Mimiko didn’t spare former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai either, suggesting that his administration’s dealings with armed groups were questionable.
He also referenced past remarks by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who once proposed selling national assets to raise $10 billion for development—an idea Mimiko described as short-sighted.
Senator Dino Melaye was also criticized, with Mimiko accusing him of prioritizing luxury over public service, citing his extravagant car collection as evidence.
In contrast, Mimiko lauded Tinubu as a strategic and accomplished leader whose record of public service outshines those of his critics.
