Israeli Airstrikes Kill 9, Injured Over 100 in Yemen

At least nine people were killed and more than 100 injured on Wednesday after Israeli airstrikes hit rebel-held areas of Yemen, in the latest escalation of tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Houthi movement.

The strikes targeted sites in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, as well as al-Jawf Province, where Houthi forces maintain military infrastructure. According to Houthi officials, Israeli warplanes struck military camps, fuel storage facilities, and offices linked to the group’s propaganda operations.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not confirmed casualty figures but said the operation was aimed at neutralizing Houthi capabilities following a series of drone and missile attacks launched toward Israel and Red Sea shipping lanes in recent weeks.

Residents in Sanaa reported loud explosions across several districts, with plumes of smoke rising from industrial areas.

Hospitals in the capital said they were overwhelmed by the influx of wounded, many of them civilians caught in the blasts.

This latest operation comes just days after Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a drone attack that narrowly missed Israel’s Ramon International Airport in the south of the country. The Houthis have repeatedly declared that their strikes are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

The conflict has drawn international concern. While the United Nations called for restraint, the European Union is debating possible sanctions on Israel over its Gaza campaign, further complicating regional diplomacy.

With the death toll rising in Yemen and the threat of more cross-border attacks, the strikes signal a new phase in the confrontation between Israel and the Houthis, raising fears of wider instability in the Middle East.
