APC Predicts More Governors to Defect Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is expecting more state governors to join the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
Speaking at the party’s 12th Expanded Stakeholders’ Meeting in Bayelsa State, Yilwatda attributed the recent defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC to President Bola Tinubu’s governance style and achievements.
Yilwatda noted that Tinubu’s influence is attracting governors, senators, and other prominent politicians from opposition parties to the APC.
“More governors and lawmakers are still on their way to our party because of the calibre, integrity, and achievements of the president,” he said. “Our doors are wide open to accommodate those willing to join hands with us to move Nigeria forward.”
The APC National Chairman urged party members in Bayelsa to remain united to ensure an overwhelming victory in 2027, emphasizing President Tinubu’s determination to take Nigeria to greater heights. Yilwatda also praised the South-South region for showing “political maturity” by aligning with the APC, noting that governors from the zone had “abandoned their old parties to support the president’s vision.”
As the 2027 general elections approach, the APC is confident of securing a second term for President Tinubu, citing his achievements and growing influence as key factors.
The party’s optimism is further boosted by the recent defections, which are seen as a sign of the president’s appeal to politicians across party lines.
