2027: Senator Jarigbe’s Seat Faces Uncertainty

As the 2027 general elections loom, a group of young activists under the banner of the OBO Youth Movement has asserted that the Cross River North Senatorial seat should be returned to the Federal Constituency encompassing Obanliku, Obudu, and Bekwarra.
The current senator representing the district, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), hails from the Ogoja Local Government Area.
Imbufe Solomon, the Director General, articulated this position during a delegation visit to Peter Akpanke, the representative for the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, in Abuja yesterday.
He asserted that their primary objective is to secure equitable political representation, advocating for the Cross River North Senatorial seat’s return to the OBO Federal Constituency.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the visit aimed to share their vision and advocacy strategies in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
In response, Akpanke expressed gratitude for the visit and commended the group for their unity and progressive outlook.
“I deeply appreciate your thoughtful and mature approach to this matter,” he remarked.
“While my focus remains on my current mandate, I welcome this dialogue and commend your proactive endeavors for our constituency’s future.”
He encouraged the youth to remain peaceful, strategic, and united in their quest for equity and progress throughout Cross River North.
Additionally, Paul Anyin, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, pointed out that by 2027, the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, with only two local government areas, would have held the seat for 20 of the past 28 years, whereas the OBO Federal Constituency, comprising Obanliku, Obudu, and Bekwarra, had held it for a mere eight years.
