PM News, Vanguard Retract False Story, Apologises to Senator Gbenga Daniel

PM News and Vanguard have both tendered apologies to Senator Gbenga Daniel after admitting to publishing misleading reports alleging his suspension from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In separate letters dated September 3, 2025, and addressed to the former Ogun State governor through his legal counsel, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, the two media outlets acknowledged that their August 24 publications titled “Why APC suspended Gbenga Daniel” were unfounded.

The managements of PM News and Vanguard confirmed that the articles had since been pulled down, stressing that there was no intention to cause malice.

“We regret any embarrassment the publication may have caused and tender our unreserved apology,” PM News stated in its letter signed by the editor, a sentiment equally echoed by Vanguard in its retraction.

The double retraction highlights growing scrutiny over media accountability in Nigeria, particularly in political reporting where misinformation can significantly harm reputations.
