Minister Imaan Brings Relief, Empowerment to Benue, Delivers Tinubu’s Message of Hope

It was a day of joy, relief, and renewed hope for the people of Benue State as the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, visited Makurdi on Saturday with truckloads of empowerment packages, cash grants, and a goodwill message from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

For a state long battered by insecurity, violent clashes, and displacement, the minister’s visit came as a timely intervention. Once renowned as the “Food Basket of the Nation,” Benue has in recent years witnessed devastation that left many families struggling for survival.

The distribution of relief materials and empowerment schemes, therefore, offered not just immediate succour but a renewed sense of belonging for women, girls, and vulnerable groups.

At the Government House, Minister Imaan was received by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, his Deputy, Sir Sam Ode, Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Mrs. Scholastica Bem-Sor.

She conveyed the President and First Lady’s message of compassion, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the people of Benue.

The minister also highlighted ongoing national programmes of the Women Affairs Ministry, including economic empowerment schemes for women entrepreneurs and farmers, initiatives to protect women and girls from gender-based violence, social investment programmes for widows, orphans, and displaced families, as well as capacity-building efforts to prepare women for leadership roles.

Governor Alia, in his remarks, praised the Federal Government’s intervention and assured continued collaboration to address the needs of displaced persons and vulnerable groups in the state.

He also emphasized his administration’s commitment to gender inclusion, citing the appointment of women into key positions and the launch of targeted programmes for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The visit, marked by excitement and gratitude, rekindled hope among Benue residents who see the Federal Government’s gesture as a new chapter of compassion, empowerment, and rebuilding.
