Representative Abdulmumin Jibrin Expelled from NNPP for Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) announced on Saturday the expulsion of a prominent party figure and House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa. Jibrin, who serves the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, was a staunch ally of both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, until recent events unfolded.

During a press conference in Kano, the NNPP state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, declared that the beleaguered legislator had transgressed party boundaries and would no longer be tolerated.

He accused Jibrin of engaging in anti-party activities, issuing recurrent media criticisms against the party and its leadership, and neglecting financial obligations to the party.

Dungurawa reminisced that Jibrin’s electoral success was largely attributable to the support of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP platform rather than his individual political prowess.

“If he possessed genuine political strength, he would have triumphed in his previous elections under the APC, but he did not. It was only through his association with NNPP via Kwankwasiyya that he secured a position in the House. Now, he deludes himself, believing he is politically strong,” Dungurawa emphasized.

The chairman noted that the party did not act precipitously but had established a reconciliation committee to engage Jibrin following his last interview with Channels Television.

He lamented that the intervention yielded no substantial results, as Jibrin’s subsequent media appearances indicated no change in his stance.

“Rather than engaging in dialogue, he further undermined our interests, publicly pledging allegiance to another party. Hence, we expelled him. He contributes no value,” Dungurawa lamented.

Dungurawa additionally accused Jibrin of failing to fulfill the obligatory party dues as a member, asserting that the NNPP would pursue legal action to recoup the funds.

Sunday Sun recalled that Jibrin had recently hinted at the possibility of departing from the NNPP for a new political platform.

In an interview with DCL Hausa, he emphasized that it should not surprise anyone if he opts to leave the NNPP in the near future.

Sunday Sun reports that with this current expulsion, the NNPP has further diminished its representation in the National Assembly.

Previous NNPP House members who have defected include the senator representing Kano South, Suleiman Kawu Sumaila; the House member representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum; and the member representing Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Sani Rogo.
