Kano Police Arrest 9 After Mob Attack On Station, One Dead, Three Officers Injured

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested nine suspects following a violent mob attack on Garko Police Division which left one person dead and three police officers injured.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that the unrest occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025.

According to him, the disturbance began when officers from Wudil Area Command brought in three suspects to Garko Division for questioning in connection with a culpable homicide case reported a day earlier in Garko Local Government Area.

Kiyawa explained that while the suspects were being interviewed, an angry crowd armed with sticks and stones stormed the station, protesting the victim’s death and demanding jungle justice on the arrested suspects.

“The mob violently attacked the police facility, causing extensive damage. They set ablaze a patrol vehicle, destroyed three vehicles belonging to the Hisbah Board, and shattered the windows of the police building,” the statement read.

In the ensuing chaos, one person was killed, while three police personnel sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Wudil Hospital.

The spokesperson said calm has since been restored to the area, while nine suspects have been apprehended in connection with the violence.

He assured that investigations are ongoing and those found culpable would face prosecution.

Kiyawa further warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that the command would not tolerate acts of mob justice or attacks on security personnel and facilities.
