Be Good Ambassadors, Uzodinma Charges Pilgrims as He Flags Off 2025 Season

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has officially flagged off the 2025 Christian pilgrimage, calling on intending pilgrims to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of both Imo State and Nigeria during their journey to the Holy Land.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Dr. Chinyere Ekomaru, gave the charge on September 4, 2025, during the orientation programme for the pilgrims held at the Government House Chapel in Owerri.
He described the pilgrimage as a “Pilgrimage of Renewed Hope for Total Restoration,” urging participants to see the spiritual journey as an opportunity for renewal and deeper devotion.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized discipline, obedience to the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) officials, and respect for laws and cultures in the host countries.
He reminded the pilgrims that their behavior abroad would reflect not just on themselves but also on Imo State and the entire nation.
One of the highlights of this year’s pilgrimage is the historic airlift of pilgrims directly from Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri. For the first time, Christian pilgrims will depart directly from the airport to Israel and Jordan.
The flag-off of the airlift is scheduled for September 14, 2025.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Nwamaka Okpara, South East Zonal Coordinator of the NCPC, urged the pilgrims to focus on the spiritual purpose of the trip, stressing that pilgrimage is a sacred journey meant to strengthen faith and moral conduct.
Rev. Fr. Gilbert Alaribe, Chairman of the Imo State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, commended the governor for his consistent support, noting that Uzodimma has sustained the sponsorship of 1,000 pilgrims annually.
He assured that this year’s programme would uphold the same standard of organization and spiritual guidance.
The 2025 Easter Pilgrimage, delayed until September, will now serve as the first major Christian pilgrimage from Imo State in the year, with expectations high among participants.
For the government, it is also a demonstration of commitment to faith-based programmes that promote moral renewal, cultural exchange, and the spiritual growth of its citizens.
