Awujale Stool: Elders Reject Money Influence in Succession Process

The Head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu Ode, Alhaji Abdulateef Owoyemi, has assured that the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland will not be influenced by moneybags.
Speaking to journalists at his Idowa Ijebu residence on Saturday, Owoyemi revealed that eight aspirants had attempted to sway the elders with financial inducements, but were firmly turned down.
“The council of elders told them that we don’t want anything of such. All that matters to us is a transparent and fair selection process where only the best from our ruling house are put forward to the kingmakers,” he stated.
Owoyemi, a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), stressed that the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, had warned against allowing wealth to dictate succession, as it could spell setbacks for Ijebuland.
He reiterated that the Fusengbuwa ruling house remains committed to upholding fairness, transparency, and integrity in the succession process.
