South Africa Can Confirm World Cup Ticket With Victory Over Nigeria, Says Broos

South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, has declared that his side could seal qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they defeat Nigeria in their next qualifier.
The Bafana Bafana boss made the remarks after his team’s emphatic 3–0 victory over Lesotho in Bloemfontein, which pushed them further ahead at the top of Group C.
With that result, South Africa moved to 16 points, extending their lead to nine points over Nigeria. The Super Eagles, who have endured an inconsistent qualifying campaign, now face a must-win clash to keep their hopes alive.
Broos, however, suggested that a win for his side could all but settle the race.
“We are in a good situation, we have everything in our own hands,” he said. “If God is with us, maybe by Tuesday we will already qualify for the World Cup. That remains our target. It’s up to us to finish the job.”
While a win against Nigeria would put South Africa in a commanding position, their qualification would also depend on results elsewhere, particularly the outcomes of matches involving Benin and Rwanda. Still, Broos exuded confidence that his team can wrap things up early.
The upcoming match promises high drama. For South Africa, victory would represent a historic moment, confirming their return to the global stage. For Nigeria, the game is nothing short of decisive; anything less than a win could put their qualification campaign in serious jeopardy.
As anticipation builds, both nations are preparing for one of the most crucial fixtures of the African qualifiers. The spotlight will be on Broos and his players to see if they can deliver against one of Africa’s football powerhouses and secure their ticket to North America 2026.
