Sinner Outclasses Auger-Aliassime To Reach Historic US Open Final

Italy’s Jannik Sinner powered past Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime on Friday night to book his place in the US Open final, becoming just the fourth man in the Open Era to reach all four Grand Slam finals in a single season.

Sinner, the world number one, won the semi-final in four sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 after three hours and 21 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 24-year-old now joins Rod Laver, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in achieving the rare feat, and is the youngest player ever to do so.

The victory also extended Sinner’s winning streak at hard-court Grand Slams to 27 matches, tying Djokovic for the second-longest run in the Open Era.

A triumph in Sunday’s final would hand him a fifth career major, adding to his Australian Open and Wimbledon titles earlier this year, and his runner-up finish at Roland Garros.

Auger-Aliassime, who reached his first US Open semi-final since 2021, admitted he was disappointed but said he drew encouragement from his deep run. “I take positives from this tournament,” the Canadian said. “I beat some of the best players in the world, and this gives me confidence moving forward.”

Sinner will now face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final, marking the first time in tennis history that the world’s top two players will contest all four Grand Slam finals in a single season.
