Army Cautions Nigerians Against Fake 90th Recruitment Intake Advertisement

Army Cautions Nigerians Against Fake 90th Recruitment Intake Advertisement The Nigerian Army has issued a strong warned the public to disregard a viral publication circulating on social media platforms, which falsely claims that applications have been declared open for the 90th Regular Recruitment Intake (90RRI). In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, Captain Abubakar Umar Hammanga, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations (Directorate of Recruitment), described the viral notice as a “fake and misleading advertisement” designed to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians. He emphasized that the Army has not yet opened any application portal for the 90RRI and urged citizens to treat the circulating message as false. “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a fraudulent publication in circulation, alleging that recruitment for the 90 Regular Recruit Intake has commenced. This is entirely untrue, and the public is advised to disregard it. The Nigerian Army has not started any such exercise,” the statement read in part. Hammanga stressed that the Army only announces recruitment exercises through its official communication channels, including its verified website and social media handles, adding that any publication outside those channels should be considered fraudulent. The Army further cautioned Nigerians against engaging with unauthorized websites, social media accounts, or individuals who pose as intermediaries in the recruitment process. According to the statement, such schemes are often designed to extort money or harvest personal data from unsuspecting job seekers. This development comes shortly after the conclusion of the 89th Regular Recruit Intake, during which the Army reiterated that its recruitment process is transparent, free of charge, and not to be facilitated through third parties. Security experts have repeatedly warned that cybercriminals are taking advantage of widespread unemployment in the country to set up fake recruitment schemes, targeting vulnerable applicants desperate for opportunities. The Nigerian Army urged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious advertisements or individuals parading fake recruitment notices to the nearest Army formation or relevant security agencies.
