Nigeria’s Mining Cadastre, EFCC Collaborate to Stem Crimes in Mining Sector

The Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office, Engineer Obadiah Nkom, has emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle economic and financial crimes in Nigeria’s mining sector. During a meeting with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Zonal Director, ACE I Michael Wetkas, Nkom highlighted the need for strengthened accountability and transparency to ensure a secure operating environment for stakeholders.

 

The two agencies discussed key areas of cooperation, including intelligence sharing, capacity building, and coordinated actions against illicit activities undermining the sector’s potential.

 

The EFCC Zonal Director praised the MCO’s proactive approach, noting it demonstrates the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

 

The partnership aims to restore “sanity and order” in the mining sector, with the EFCC reaffirming its readiness to work closely with the MCO.

 

This collaboration is expected to yield tangible results, particularly in promoting transparency and good governance in Nigeria’s mining industry.

 

The MCO’s reform agenda includes digitizing mineral title administration and enhancing revenue collection, aligning with the EFCC’s efforts to combat corruption.

 

By working together, the agencies seek to unlock the sector’s potential and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
