Eid-el-Maulud: Wike Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace and Compassion

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). In a statement issued in Abuja, Wike said the celebration provides a unique opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the values of peace, tolerance, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet. He urged citizens to use the occasion to strengthen the bonds of unity and work collectively for the progress of the country. “The birth of Prophet Muhammad is not just a historical event but a reminder of the noble virtues of sacrifice, compassion, humility, and peaceful coexistence. As we celebrate, let us emulate his teachings by showing kindness and love to one another, regardless of our religious, ethnic, or political differences,” Wike said. The Minister emphasized that Nigeria’s current challenges — from insecurity to economic hardship — require a collective spirit of tolerance and empathy. He noted that peace and compassion are indispensable for sustainable development and stability in the country. “As a people, we must embrace peace and show compassion to one another. Our diversity should be our strength, not a source of division. By imbibing the lessons of the Prophet’s life, we can build a stronger and more united nation,” he added. The Federal Government had earlier declared Friday as a public holiday to allow Muslims across the country to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud. Across states, the day was marked with prayers, processions, religious lectures, and acts of charity. Religious leaders also used the opportunity to call for greater unity, justice, and support for the less privileged in society. Political leaders and governors across different regions joined in extending goodwill messages, urging Nigerians to use the celebration as a time to pray for peace, prosperity, and national cohesion. Wike, in his message, reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to promoting peace and harmony among residents of the territory, adding that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability and mutual understanding. “As we mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, I call on all residents of the FCT and Nigerians at large to reflect deeply on the Prophet’s teachings and rededicate ourselves to the values of compassion, tolerance, and unity. By doing so, we will not only honour his legacy but also secure a better future for our nation,” the Minister said.
