SSDC Prioritizes Infrastructure, Agriculture, Industries for Regional Growth

The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) has outlined its key focus areas to accelerate development in the region.

At the inaugural board meeting held in Abuja, Chairman Chibudom Nwuche stated that the commission will prioritize infrastructure development, including railways and roads, industries, agriculture, telecommunications, and urban development.

The SSDC was established to tackle economic, social, and environmental challenges in the south-southern states. Nwuche emphasized the commission’s mandate to identify underlying causes of underdevelopment and formulate practical solutions.

The commission will work with state governors, the National Assembly, and other stakeholders to achieve its objectives. Nwuche also promised to empower youth and women, who have been disproportionately affected by oil production.

The SSDC will engage in constant consultation with other development organizations to avoid duplication of projects and efforts.

The commission aims to bring the people of the South-South region closer to prosperity through deliberate investment, sound policy engagement, and meaningful partnerships.

The SSDC’s Managing Director, Usoro Akpabio, described the South-South region as “ready for the world,” adding that the commission will work to unlock opportunities, enhance trade, and attract investment through infrastructure development and strategic partnerships.
