Shittu Predicts Tinubu Will Gain Significant South-East Votes in 2027

Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure substantial votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Shittu dismissed suggestions that the “Obi factor” a reference to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi would pose a significant threat to Tinubu’s chances in the region.
According to him, political dynamics in the South-East are shifting in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“If you know the amount of votes that will be coming from even the South-East for APC, you’ll be shocked,” Shittu declared.
He attributed this expected swing to the influence of key political figures such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who he said would help mobilise support for the president.
“They will persuade voters to come the Tinubu route,” he added.
On whether Obi still shapes political sentiments in the South-East, Shittu was dismissive, insisting that the president’s focus remains on victory.
“It doesn’t matter. What is important is for him [Tinubu] to win. Even if to win by 10 votes, I can assure you that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is going to win,” he said.
The former minister also addressed the economic hardship currently facing Nigerians, citing the soaring cost of fuel and the depreciation of the naira. He argued, however, that these challenges were the result of years of mismanagement and assured that Tinubu’s reforms would yield positive outcomes in the long run.
“Nigerians are not finding it easy.
But I want to say this with authority and sincerity: a lot of the initiatives of Tinubu now, Nigerians will come to thank him sooner than later,” Shittu stated.
