FCT Farmers to Benefit from Subsidized Fertilizer Program

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has launched a fertilizer distribution program aimed at boosting food production and enhancing food security in the territory. The program, which was flagged off by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will see 550 metric tonnes of assorted fertilizers distributed at 50% subsidized rates to farmers across the six area councils.

The fertilizers being distributed include conventional NPK, granular urea, NPK gel, and urea gel. In addition to the fertilizers, farmers will also receive 3,500 knapsack sprayers to aid in their agricultural activities.

The program is designed to support genuine farmers in the FCT, with strict monitoring to prevent diversion or misuse.

The FCT Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, and secure city. The fertilizer distribution program is part of the administration’s efforts to address food insecurity and promote agricultural development in the territory.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes agricultural development and food security.

The Mandate Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Ango Abdullahi, thanked the minister for his consistent support, noting that the fertilizers will be distributed to farmers at a 50% subsidized rate in strict adherence to the minister’s directives.

The FCT Administration is working with partners like the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Leventis Foundation, and the World Bank to prioritize capacity building and promote good agronomic practices.
