Ex-PDP Chairmanship Candidate Akinde Quits Party, Cites Injustice, Division

A former chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yewa North Local Government during the 2021 council elections, Kehinde Akinde, has announced his resignation from the party.
Akinde made his decision public in a statement on Wednesday, expressing disappointment with what he described as the deteriorating state of the PDP at the national, state, and local government levels.
“The one-time noble party I cherished so much has become a shadow of itself,” he lamented.
“Right from the national level manipulative division in the ranks of the party to the local government level, great injustices to our members who have contributed greatly to the party, one is left with no other option than to seek the way forward out of this quagmire.”
He explained that the decision was not reached hastily but followed what he called a “critical analysis after due consultation with our supporters at home and in diaspora.”
Akinde, who contested the Yewa North chairmanship seat under the PDP in 2021, did not disclose his next political move. However, his resignation adds to the growing list of defections and internal disputes that have plagued the PDP in recent years.
