Dubai Firm Invests $3m to Bayelsa Solar Power, Meter Projects

The Bayelsa State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jampur Group, a Dubai-based conglomerate, for the establishment of solar power and smart metering production plants in the state.
The agreement, signed on Thursday at the Government House in Yenagoa, involves a $3 million investment, which will be fully financed by the company.
Governor Douye Diri, who witnessed the signing, expressed delight at the partnership, describing Jampur Group as a reputable firm with an impressive track record both in Nigeria and abroad.
He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s drive to attract sustainable investments that would promote industrialization, improve energy access, and create employment opportunities for the people of Bayelsa.
“This partnership goes beyond Bayelsa. It is a project that will benefit the entire Niger Delta, Nigeria, and even extend to the Gulf of Guinea,” Diri stated.
The governor emphasized that the project would not only boost electricity supply through renewable energy but also introduce locally manufactured smart meters to tackle energy theft, enhance revenue generation, and ensure transparency in power distribution.
On his part, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Alabrah, explained in a statement that the solar power and smart meter plants would position Bayelsa as a hub for clean energy innovation and technology in the region.
Industry observers say the development could reduce the state’s dependence on the national grid, provide reliable electricity to underserved communities, and support the federal government’s renewable energy transition agenda.
