Tinubu Visited Benue After Renewed Killings Left Scores Dead, Many Displaced

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had in June paid a condolence visit to Benue State following renewed killings that rocked several communities and left scores dead, many others injured, and thousands displaced.
The visit came in the aftermath of coordinated attacks by suspected herdsmen on villages across Guma, Gwer West, and Gwer East Local Government Areas, which sparked outrage across the country and heightened concerns about the persistent insecurity in the state.
During his visit, Tinubu met with Governor Hyacinth Alia, traditional rulers, and victims of the violence.
He condemned the killings, assured the people of Benue that the Federal Government would not abandon them, and pledged urgent intervention to restore peace and rebuild affected communities.
The President’s trip was seen at the time as a significant gesture of solidarity, especially as it marked one of his earliest official visits to a state outside Abuja since assuming office in May 2023.
However, despite those assurances, community leaders and rights groups have since expressed disappointment that months after the visit, little progress has been made in terms of rehabilitation, security reinforcement, or humanitarian support for displaced residents.
