Police Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi Redeployed to Delta Command

The Nigeria Police Force has relieved its long-time spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, of his role at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, redeploying him to the Delta State Command.

His deputy will now assume responsibility for public communications.

Adejobi’s exit closes a stormy chapter in the Force’s image management. Throughout his tenure, he faced sustained criticism for shielding the institution from accountability, suppressing dissent on social media, and being embroiled in personal scandals.

Despite being elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, a promotion that sparked controversy within the service, Adejobi remained under intense scrutiny. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju even petitioned the U.S. Embassy to revoke his visa, accusing him of abusing his office and silencing critics.

He was also linked to multiple personal controversies, including allegations from women who accused him of harassment and abuse of power.

Activists further alleged that he worked through proxy platforms to issue statements and intimidate opponents after withdrawing from direct media engagement.

In one widely reported incident, Adejobi’s aide was caught on video snatching activist Omoyele Sowore’s Ray-Ban glasses during a protest, a scandal that forced police authorities to eventually return the item.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate, has repeatedly accused Adejobi of being emblematic of systemic rot in the police force. Responding to a recent police statement defending his arrest, Sowore described Adejobi as “one of the worst officers ever recruited,” alleging that impunity flourished under his watch.

Adejobi’s redeployment marks the end of his controversial era as the voice of the Force, though questions about his legacy and accountability remain unresolved.
