Police Arrest Suspected Bandit, Recover 10 Rustled Cows in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit and recovered 10 rustled cows in Bachaka, Ngaski Local Government Area, in a renewed crackdown on violent crimes across the state.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar.

According to Abubakar, the arrest was made on August 31, following credible intelligence that led operatives to Bachaka cattle market, where a 42-year-old suspect, identified as Salihu Umar from Dogon Dutse, Niger Republic, was apprehended.

The recovered cattle were confirmed to belong to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma, Bunza Local Government Area, whose herd of 68 cows had earlier been rustled by suspected Lakurawa bandits on August 20 and smuggled across the border into Niger Republic.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officer of Bachaka and his team for what he described as “a brave and intelligence-led operation,” and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further discreet investigation.

Sani emphasized the need to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover the remaining stolen cattle. He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring lasting peace in Kebbi State.

He further urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to the police and other security agencies to enable swift responses to security threats.
