One Dead, Two Injured in Ikorodu Road Crash

One person has been confirmed dead and two others injured in a fatal road accident that occurred along the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road on Tuesday morning.
The crash involved a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus, with registration number LND 490 SD, and an articulated truck bearing plate number EKY 121 YJ.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus, in an attempt to gain right of way, rammed into the truck.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said one of the passengers, who was seated at the bus doorway, was flung out on impact and crushed under the truck’s rear tyres. He died instantly. Two other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
Emergency responders, including LASTMA personnel, police officers from Owutu Division, and security operatives, arrived promptly at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore the heavy traffic that built up as a result of the crash.
The accident happened barely 24 hours after a similar incident was reported along the same Ikorodu corridor, sparking concerns about recurring fatalities on the busy road.
LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq described the crash as “deeply unfortunate” and urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise restraint and avoid reckless driving.
He stressed that overspeeding and competition for road space remain major causes of crashes in Lagos.
Authorities have since moved the damaged vehicles from the road to ease traffic congestion, while investigations continue into the immediate cause of the collision.
