Ondo Governor Approves N350m Scholarship, Bursary for 12,000 Students

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved the disbursement of N350 million for the 2025 scholarship and bursary scheme for indigenes of the state studying in higher institutions across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, in Akure.
According to the governor, the payment will benefit about 12,000 students, covering five categories, including medical students, law students, and students with disabilities. The figure represents an increase from 2024, when N335 million was distributed to 11,200 students.
Aiyedatiwa recalled that in 2024, his administration doubled the annual bursary for students from N10,000 to N20,000, while students with disabilities received N75,000 each and scholarship beneficiaries were given N100,000 each.
“My administration recognises education as the cornerstone for development. It is the key to unlocking the potential of young people,” the governor said.
“Many of our students face significant financial challenges in pursuing their academic dreams.
That is why we provide bursaries, scholarships, and financial assistance to support them, alleviate their burdens, and enable them to focus on their studies.”
He described the gesture as a testament to his government’s commitment to investing in the future of both the state and the nation, stressing the need for equitable access to quality education.
Meanwhile, it will be recalled that on August 27, the state government banned private schools from organising graduation ceremonies for nursery, primary, and junior secondary school pupils. It also outlawed unregistered schools and suspended the re-accreditation of all private schools for quality assurance purposes.
