Nasir El-Rufai Carpets ONSA, Kaduna Government Over Security Claims

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has fired back at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Kaduna State Government over their recent statements accusing him of politicizing national security.

In a detailed response, El-Rufai maintained that security agencies have turned security into a political tool and are complicit in payments to bandits.

He expressed disappointment that instead of addressing the core issues he raised, ONSA and the Kaduna government chose to deflect responsibility.

El-Rufai questioned the mechanics of alleged payments to bandits, asking who delivers the money, how much is handed over, and whether middlemen skim funds before delivery.

He also challenged officials to account for recent purchases of prime real estate in Abuja, suggesting possible links to illicit flows.

The former governor criticized what he described as ONSA’s public displays, including the parade of “rescued victims” and the attendance of senior security officers at political events in Kaduna, as examples of politicized security messaging.

El-Rufai reiterated his respect for the military and security agencies but expressed concern over the current approach to security management. He urged ONSA and Kaduna authorities to focus on solving insecurity rather than “muzzling” dissent.
