Liverpool Unveil Striker Isak After Record £125m Deal

Liverpool have completed the signing of Sweden international Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record £125 million ($169 million) transfer, ending one of the longest-running sagas of the Premier League transfer window.
The 24-year-old striker, who had been on Liverpool’s radar for months, was officially unveiled on Monday after putting pen to paper on a six-year contract with the reigning Premier League champions.
Isak expressed delight at joining Jürgen Klopp’s side, describing the move as the fulfilment of a career dream.
“I feel amazing,” Isak told Liverpool’s official website. “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The Swedish forward added that he is eager to hit the ground running:
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
The transfer fee eclipses the £115m Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, underlining Liverpool’s determination to secure a marquee signing to strengthen their attacking options.
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and quickly became a fan favourite at St James’ Park, scoring 31 goals in all competitions across two seasons. His movement, finishing, and versatility made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, with Liverpool fending off interest from rival clubs to clinch the deal.
The record-breaking transfer is seen as a major statement of intent by Liverpool as they look to defend their league crown and challenge for European glory.
Klopp is expected to integrate Isak into the squad immediately, with fans eager to see him make his debut in the coming weeks.
