LASTMA Clears Wreckage, Mourns Victims of Fatal Lekki–Epe Crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says it has evacuated the wreckage of a commercial Mazda bus and an articulated truck involved in Monday’s fatal crash at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare-Oki Olalekan, explained that the operation was carried out with security support from officers of the Owutu Police Division to ensure smooth rescue efforts and restore traffic along the busy corridor.
According to him, six people, including a child, lost their lives in the accident, while nine others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the bereaved families, stressing the need for drivers to exercise patience, restraint, and civic responsibility on the highways, particularly congested routes like the Ikorodu corridor.
He added that the prompt intervention of emergency responders prevented further escalation and ensured that traffic was quickly restored after the evacuation of the damaged vehicles.
The tragedy adds to recent fatal road accidents in Lagos, sparking renewed calls for improved road safety compliance across the state.
