Gov Diri Appoints Wisdom Sawyer As Bayelsa Head of Service Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has appointed Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer as the new Head of the State Civil Service. The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Yenagoa by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah. Sawyer succeeds Mrs. Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, who retired from service on August 31. Until his appointment, Sawyer was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health. He joined the Bayelsa State Civil Service on June 8, 1998, as a medical officer and has since served in various capacities. Born on May 14, 1970, in Odi, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Sawyer holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Port Harcourt (1996). He also obtained a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Lagos in 2000, a Part II Fellowship in Public Health in 2010, and has defended his PhD dissertation at Niger Delta University. A fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Sawyer is widely regarded as a seasoned administrator with deep knowledge of the state’s health sector and civil service operations. Governor Diri expressed confidence that the new Head of Service would bring his wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the state civil service for greater efficiency and productivity. Sawyer is expected to drive reforms across ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure effective implementation of government policies and service delivery.
