Gombe Resident Electoral Commissioner Warns Against Multiple Voter Registration

The Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Sa’ad Idris, has cautioned residents against multiple registrations in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to Dr. Idris, multiple registrations are a waste of time and Nigeria’s scarce resources, and offenders risk punishment under the law.

Dr. Idris disclosed that over 62,000 Permanent Voter Cards remain uncollected in Gombe State, prompting concerns about citizens’ participation in the 2027 general elections. He also revealed that only 4,603 registrations had been recorded as of Friday, with the online registration phase starting on August 18 and the physical registration phase commencing on August 25.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies and traditional institutions to enhance the registration process. He had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, and briefed him on the CVR exercise.

The Emir of Gombe has pledged support for the CVR exercise, urging eligible persons to register and collect their PVCs. He commended Dr. Idris for his integrity and assured stakeholders that the traditional institution would work closely with him to mobilize citizens.

The CVR exercise, which started on August 25, will run until the end of the month, with registration centers available at INEC state and local government offices. Eligible citizens are encouraged to register and collect their PVCs to participate in future elections.
