Dangote Cement Extends Scholarship Scheme to 51 Communities in Kogi

Dangote Cement Plc has expanded its scholarship programme to include 51 communities in the Oworo District of Kogi State, in a move aimed at deepening its corporate social responsibility and fostering educational development in the region.
Speaking at the award ceremony held in Obajana on Monday, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, said the initiative was part of the company’s continued investment in human capital and community development.
According to him, although the Oworo communities are not among the company’s direct host areas, Dangote Cement decided to extend the scholarship to them in recognition of their shared cultural and economic ties with the company’s operations.
“We are committed to improving the lives of people in and around our operational areas. By expanding this scheme, we are ensuring that no community in Oworo District is left behind,” Nawabuddin stated.
He further explained that the company already runs a robust scholarship scheme for its host communities in line with the Community Development Agreement (CDA).
The new expansion, he said, was an additional gesture of goodwill aimed at promoting inclusiveness and social harmony.
In addition to the scholarship scheme, Dangote Cement also announced the provision of five boreholes across five Oworo communities, a project designed to ease access to clean water and improve living standards.
Community leaders and beneficiaries at the event praised the company for its generosity, describing the initiative as a welcome intervention that would reduce the financial burden on families and encourage more young people to pursue education.
The scholarship scheme, one of the flagship community development projects of Dangote Cement, has over the years supported hundreds of students across Kogi State, helping to foster education, build capacity, and uplift communities surrounding its operations.
