Wike Denies Backing APC, Says He Only Delivered PDP in His Local Government

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed suggestions that he secretly worked to secure widespread electoral victories for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, insisting that his political influence was confined to his own local government.
Speaking during a media parley on Arise News, Wike addressed claims that he undermined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by covertly aligning with the APC. He stated that such allegations were unfounded and politically motivated, stressing that he campaigned openly for PDP within his constituency.
“I can only influence what happens in my own local government. I have an influence, I campaigned for my people to vote for PDP, and my people voted for PDP in my local government,” the minister declared. He explained that results from his base in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor reflected the true voting pattern of his supporters, reaffirming that the PDP maintained its stronghold there.
Wike also dismissed speculation of a secret alliance between PDP and APC, accusing sections of the media of spreading unverified reports. He urged journalists to investigate thoroughly before drawing conclusions about his role in the wider electoral outcomes.
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Rivers, where the APC recorded notable gains in areas once dominated by the PDP. Wike, who remains one of the most influential figures in the state, continues to face scrutiny from party members and political observers who question his loyalties ahead of future elections.
By reasserting his position, Wike sought to distance himself from narratives of betrayal, framing his political conduct as transparent and loyal to his party, at least within the scope of his jurisdiction.
